People Then & Now
People 100 years ago were a lot less open to immigration reform and didn't believe immigrants should be entitled too rights. People today seem to be more open to the idea although both centuries have their share of people who don't think immigrants should be allowed or immigration should be lowered. Government 100 years ago caused people to think the way they did, even though we had some great leaders like Teddy Roosevelt all seemed to be somewhat anti-immigration. People today are influenced by other people around them and people in office like Jan Brewer or powerful people like Rush Limbaugh. People 100 years ago were close minded too immigration and wanted to lower it with acts like the Emergency Quota Act or Immigration Act of 1921. It seems immigration has taken a step backwards over the past 100 years, sure there have been some great new laws for immigrants like the Immigrant and Nationality Act of 1965 or the Dream Act but overall we are more violent and scared towards immigrants than we were 100 years ago. We have established one of the most guarded borders in the world with Mexico and we have spent hundreds and thousands of dollars trying to chase down and catch illegal immigrants.
